Wrong size window put in crooked and busted drywalll

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I had a horrible experience. A technician came to measure windows drywall to drywall for replacement. We told him we were redoing the bathroom and they failed to take note of that because technician was more concerned with complaining about how sick he felt that day and didn't stop talking about it. That could be a moment for error whether it be not listening to what we said or so focused on himself he wrote the wrong measurements down. The old metal window stretched from original wood frame to wood frame. Yes, previous drywall was covering metal frame. Drwall was 1/2 inch thick. We expected the window to be smaller (the size of drywall which is 1/2 inch) but not that much smaller. When installed no one mentioned shimming in from original frame to fit new window. If they measured drywall to drywall(like they claimed) and supposedly unbeknownst to them that we were redoing the drywall (like they claimed) the window should've fit perfectly. All that needed to be done from there on is flashing and caulking. But unfortunately since we took the drywall out they felt it was okay to shim the window in to make up for the wrong size (which they neglected to tell us they were doing) They called that "tampering" However, if they were expecting to see drywall and to install new windows on to the drywall, they would've noticed that the windows were an inch too small on all 4 sides. An inch and a half going from original wood frame to new window. Otherwise they would've put wood shims on to clean drywall. I would be left seeing clean drywall, wood shim, then the window. I would think the installer then would notice a problem and report back saying something isn't right. The window was also put in crooked and they refused to even take note or talk about that. The technician came to the house after we complained to check things out. He began to explain how windows work and why the window is smaller. He said the area was previously drywalled. (which would make it a 1/2 inch in) He measured from drywall to drywall. The original drywall was nailed to the original wood slightly covering the metal window. ( a half inch) Which you will see black outline in metal window picture. The metal window that was attached from original wood frame to wood frame. He explained that the gap left around the window to the shims they made were for the new drywall to go in. However, if he measured drywall to drywall in the first place and the installer saw that there was no drywall but should leave space for it, then why would he have to use shims and additional space for new drywall. He should've already seen the original wood and that the original window went against it when he took it out. So the new window needs to be offset a half inch for drywall. Not shim AND leave gap for drywall. When we asked the technician what is the thickest piece of drywall he has seen he ended the conversation, remeasured and said he would take it back but not say he measured wrong when it's plain as day that it's not right. Because if it was right, that means the previous drywall was in one full inch and a half. The glass part of the metal window (that went all the way to the original wood that the original drywall was attached to) would've been covered by drywall. Which is absurd. The technician also stated they measure drywall to drywall which is on the inside, however the owner said they measure the outside of the house and even then that was shimmed from the brick with flashing. The previous metal window stretched from wood frame to wood frame on the inside and brick to brick on the outside. When the owner came, he doesn't allow anyone to speak. Which has been mentioned by several people in reviews. This can frustrate anyone. And since I'm the concerned customer who is out $1600 from this company I would like to be heard and understood. When I asked what I can do to fix this he said "put in foam to seal the window and a wood casing to cover the wood shims put in" I wasn't even given the opportunity to explain why I deserve the right size window. Also the owner not only didn't allow us to speak, he proceeded to say I need to grow up, stand on my own two feet and admit that I am wrong. I had to rebuttal with "same". Because I feel as a business owner he should admit to his mistakes. Not leave people dissatisfied. I don't know what mistake I could've made. The window was put in originally from wood frame to wood frame. There's no way I could've messed with anything. The old drywall had to attach to the old wood otherwise it would just float in the air or it would've covered the glass in the previous window by your measurements. Which then would've cause severely molded drywall and wood due to the sweat an old window caused. You see here in the picture there is no such thing. The only thing dark and discolored is the half inch slot where the previous drywall met up with the metal frame. The owner proceeded to walk away from me to leave while I was talking with out resolving anything. As a business owner you should never tell your customer they were wrong, especially when they were never given the opportunity to explain themselves. I would've been happy to compromise and pay the difference of a bigger window but I wasn't even given the opportunity to do so. All of this would've been solved and I still would've given a great review because things would've been made right. I was shot down from the beginning. This man talks over you and refuses to listen. There are many reviews online stating this same thing. I wasn't able to receive the help that I deserve and feel very trapped on getting things resolved. I will mention this to everyone that I meet. I will make sure that this never happens to anyone. This is a terrible terrible representative for your company. That is not a threat, that is just me caring about other people and being sure they do not have to go through what you are putting me through. Please imagine the original window. The dark outline along the edge where the previous drywall was placed. That will show you that the only thing I "tampered" with was the original drywall attached to the original wood that met up a half inch on the metal frame which was planed to be replaced with new half inch drywall. Also notice it is put in crooked and I have busted drywall from the installed. I hope to God I just get my money back and none of this has to go on. I'm sure myself and everyone at Window World has no time for this. I'd like to also know how much the two bathroom windows were for them at cost. I guarantee it couldn't be more than $100 material of window only. All this for something that costs hardly nothing to make right. And I'm pretty sure they could've reused the wrong sized windows in another house that fits. I know this is just going to go straight to the owner and it's in his hands to make it right which is a very very scary thought. He already came in guns blazing ready to tell me what to do rather than listen to the actual problem. Which I now have to spend a significant amount of time writing and he has to take time out of his day reading and continuously dealing with because I will not back down. I hope you take all emotions, ego, pride, and stubbornness out of the picture and really see this for what it is. Simple fix. Small mistake made in to a huge argument and a bad business reputation. Allow your customers to explain their side because at the end of the day I don't know anyone in their right mind who has time to make up problems and argue for fun. I just wanted the right windows to be put in the right way and if not I wanted them to be taken care of and not have to have a petty tit for tat argument. Let's not forget, I am the customer and even if it pains you so much to say.. the customer is always right.

Terrible

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

absolutely terrible. Had 6 windows put in 3 years ago, one of the windows had the plastic lip at the bottom broke on when they installed it.

Took me a year and a half!!!!! Yes a year and a half to get it replaced. Had to call several times to get it replaced. Then for god only knows what reason I let them install two more windows.

Bad choice on my part. Both windows had black scratchs on them. They said they would replace them. One year later!!!!!

Yes one year later they call to replace them.

Told me they have tried to call me several times but I never answered. You get what you pay for in terms of service.

Senior Fraud Partnership w/Wells Fargo

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

After just 15 months, I was slapped with a 28.99% interest fee ($679) on my balance of $948 by their finance partner because of a promotion that I didn't know anything about. On their paperwork, the only thing that seems to be of concern to them is the company's cancellation policy, which was in BOLD and RED.

This is consumer ripoff. My original balance was $2000. I am unable to determine from what amount the $679 was derived. I stressed to the company representative my concerns upfront regarding my future income.

He continued to sell me on the concept of no interest without being upfront about my deadline before interest would be due.

He just pressed about no interest which is why I made a down payment of over 50%. Seniors & ordinary consumers are being ripped off by Window World & Wells Fargo through this partnership.

You signed a loan agreement when you bought the windows. Call Wells Fargo and talk to the branch manager.

The agreement should have a same as cash expiration date where you incur interest. You have the option of paying monthly with interest, or a balloon payment to avoid interest. Whomever went over your loan contract should have pointed that out to you. But Wells Fargo is who you need to deal with now.

Window World will not refund interest charges that the bank (Wells Fargo) stated on your loan contract. Pull out your original paperwork and loan. For instance, 12 months same as cash means you must pay off the loan in 12 months to avoid interest. Wells Fargo may have put your loan on a 2 or 3 year term to make the payments affordable before that last balloon payment.

If you didn't understand what you were signing when you bought your windows, you need to stress that to the Wells Fargo branch manager.

It's up to him/her to train Window World sales staff on how to offer that financing. But once you sign a legal loan document, and that balloon payment date is clearly stated with your signature, there is little recourse you have other than playing ignorant.

Wells Fargo Bank “Branches” do not and I will stress “Do Not” handle this financial product. A branch would not know what this paperwork is.

It is the Sales Representative of Window World to responsibly sell the Financial Product to the customer. This means he should be knowledgeable of all the finanacial programs and amortization terms.

Your reply to the consumer was lacking in the intelligence you are asking her to gain. She stressed her financial needs to the Salesman and he did not answer them or process her paperwork correctly. It actually sounds like he had her Wells Fargo Sales Slip filled out for the wrong program.

If he truly had her on the 15 months zero interest then she would not be in this situation as there is no balloon payment or interest unless it’s not paid off by the last 15th installment.

Your customer states this happened on the 15th month.

Your customer should call Wells Fargo as they will investigate this and will retrain this store or choose to cancel the dealer agreement with them.

Please do not call a branch but the number on your Wells Fargo paperwork.

The paperwork says "No interest if paid in __ months".It does not say 0% interest for 15 months. It's pretty obvious what that means. Customer should understand better.

Very Frustrated

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I normally don't make posts like this, but Windows World does not respond to my phone calls. We recently had new windows installed by Windows World. The trim was poorly spaced and uneven. We called customer service and a field manager came to fix the problem. When removing the trim, we saw that an insufficient amount of insulation had been used. At some places, there was more daylight than insulation. The field manager said that it was because the installers were trying to compensate for windows that were too small for the space. Really, the culture of the company is to cover up mistakes instead of own them? The salesman came and after much discussion finally agreed that he did not measure 2 of the windows correctly. He was quite rude to a friend that we had present on our behalf. The field manager gave me his phone number to call if I had any problems or concerns. Whenever I called this number, it went straight to voice mail and the mailbox had not been set up. Since then, no one has returned one of my 7 seven calls to the office. The last time I called, my message was sent to all the managers in the office. The customer service is substandard, at best. As of this writing we are 3 weeks behind on our remodel because we are waiting for the correct sized windows. Windows World does not think this is an inconvenience that we should be compensated for. #WindowsWorld

I am very sorry for the poor job and lack of communication from window world. I have been in the home improvement business, specifically window and door replacement, for 20 plus years.

About 3 years ago I made one of the biggest If not the biggest mistake of my career by accepting a sales position with window world in my area. From the beginning I could see that the company was not in the business of customer service but in the business of customer disservice. Their motto was to get the money no matter what, even if it meant to lie to and or cheat the homeowner. Very unethical across the board and the so called president of the company leading the charge.

Window World has the sales person actually measure the windows to not only price the job but to order the product as well. Believe me when I tell you that most of the sales reps couldn’t read a tape measure if their lives depended on it. This would lead to windows showing up to be installed that were most of the times too small for or too big for the openings which lends to the installation team’s motto of, “all windows are to be installed at all cost to get the remainder of the money.” Very unethical again.

It is a very true statement that you get what you pay for but it sounds like you aren’t even getting that.

Sometimes it is much better to pay a little more from a reputable company that stands behind their products and beside their customers. I know this is a little too late but hopefully it will help other homeowners from making the mistake of giving their hard earned money to sleeze balls like window world and to do a little research that will lead them to a better experience.

Window World finally returned my phones calls on Feb 2. My first call to them was on Jan 9. As of yesterday, Feb 8 no windows are in the system as being re-ordered.

Windows can take 4-8 weeks to manufacturer, deliver, and install. Mistakes happen, and if two were measured incorrectly, they should make it right and replace them.

If they look OK, an installer can remove the coil trim and add insulation, then install new coil trim. If you are getting the run around and cannot get a hold of a manager, call another office and get a district or regional manager's name and number. If that doesn't work, copy and paste your complaint to the local BBB as well as the state attorney general.

Construction is a busy and slow trade, so some patience is needed to correct errors. Ignoring calls is no excuse.

Better Business Bureau does not care if homeowners get ripped off. As long as Window World makes their dues payment. It is a garbage window and could care less after they have your money..

Horrible Experience

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
We paid in full in Sept 2017, appointment was set for Nov 3rd for install. We were told it would take half a day well it took 2 full days and we had Windows that were ordered wrong so even after coming back a 2nd day we had 2 windows that had to be reordered well first week of Dec the 2 Windows came in but one fit the other had to be reordered, so the last window came in and finally was put in right before Christmas. We also had 2 other Windows that had bad locks so they had to reorder two sashes those took forever and today 1-16-18 was their 3rd attempt to replace the two sashes and to their surprise but not ours they were the wrong size again. They did give us a little bit of money back due to the problems but at this point I have lost all hope with this company and feel like their lifetime warranty is probably a joke.

I was contemplating purchasing these windows...until I saw the horrible reviews. I contacted the Main Office (Marty) in charge of consumer relations; NO CALL BACK. I called my local office in Rockledge FL and told them why I was calling and left my phone number. NO CALL BACK. With this company you don't EVEN get what you pay for. The prices are very low for good reason; don't take the bait, you will be very sorry. Individual franchises are not accountable by anyone for their rotten products and rotten service. I gave them a chance to respond and they refused.

23 windows and 3 exterior doors. Windows installed left rot around 5 windows. I had to remove windows fixed the rot myself. All 3 doors are out of plumb none shut like they should. I've paid thousands of dollars for this to be done. I finally just decided they couldn't fix the doors so I'll hire someone to do it right or I'll do it myself. DO NOT USE Window World for anything

Window World - Just installed Today

So far seems to be a good product, but very disappointed in the installation. Left broken glass, did not vacuum, & EVERY BRAND NEW WINDOW HAS TO BE CLEANED INSIDE & OUT!!!!

(Finger prints, sweat drips, shavings) Our house flooded. We are working very hard everyday all day long. Just didn't plan to have spend all day cleaning up after them. Asked Reggie who seemed to be in charge about cleaning.

He said, "we don't clean". Only sitting now because I scrapped my foot while outside cleaning windows. When Randy Els came for the sale, we were told it was a turn key job. Also, the sliding door is hard to open & close.

Grandkids will not be able to do this. :(

Construction workers are, by law, the laziest, sloppiest persons on Earth.

It is against their code to clean up after themselves.

It is also their duty to be as obtrusive as possible on the jobsite.

That includes loud radios, smoking, yelling, putting equipment and junk anywhere there is an empty space. Hogging roadways when unnecessary, blocking traffic.

Some slob-o stacked drywall sheets 20 ft from the work area against my vintage 1984 Yamaha Double Bass touring kit drums finished in piano black ; retail value about $7500 - more than the job they were hired for.

That was only the beginning of just one example of dozens I could relate. I suppose they are a necessary evil but stay away from the evil and stay necessary.

I worked at this branch, and revamped their warehouse alone. KIM TAYLOR is only conserned with her fat paycheck, and does not want to pay workers for hours worked...

when SHE ASKED ME TO STAY LATE. Failing to inform me that it was 'volunteer'.

Thats what happens there when u do your best, and do an outstanding job - you do not receive pay for actual hours worked, and a 'Dictator Like' attitude when questioning hours worked against actual wage. Sad thing is, I actually did like working there, and the staff there, but Kim is a very manipulative person, and an incredibly nasty diposition surfaces when an employee problem is brought to her.

I ordered 6 windows, 1 got "broken" so I had to wait 5 more weeks to get it,then after waiting they shedule me for installation, and then they Beat the supervisor called me to say that they had other jobs bigger than mine so he can't sent no one to install my window that was broken in first place, and he promised it will be installed the week after. Then I got and email saying that Tara another supervisor was in charge of my installation that day I called her and she was clue less and also out of town so 2 more weekends lost and still waiting. The week after I call again asking for my window and they said my window was now "gone" missing and they couldn't find it in the warehouse now so I had to WAIT another 5 weeks to be re order again then it finally arrived and they got no one again to come to install it, so they scheduled me for the week after one more time. And step 30 I waited all day and no one called me to tell me what time will be my installation that day, Tara the supervisor would not answer any of my phone calls and then they sent and email saying that John Starlin will be on charge now of my installation, I called him and asked about my installation and he didn't answer a word he Just hung up on me and turned his phone off. So here I am 3 months later and still waiting for my last window to be installed with no one answering the phone at me playing stupid. They just took my money and now they don't want to install my window.

Save your money, time, and aggravation and go with a local contractor! Window World of Greater Susquehanna Valley is just a disorganized mess! From the top to the bottom. I dealt with owner of the company, contractors, and the office people. They are about as organized as a 3 year old game of softball would be. One never knew what the others were doing. I assumed the contractors knew what they were doing. When I came home and realized how they had installed the skirting on my trailer I suggested to them that they put the proper rail on top of the skirting so when the ground heaves it wouldn't be pushed out. They didn't listen and sure enough, it sticks out about 3-4 inches on hot days. The contractor even lied once and said he had talked to me about a date he was supposed to show up. He claimed he spoke with me and I wasn't available that day! I got so mad I actually contacted the owner and he assured me the contractors would show up on a certain date to do the work. I took the day off of work and the contractors never showed! I could go on, not worth your time, money or aggravation!

Window World - Salesman incompetent and installers just as bad!!

Window World - Salesman incompetent and installers just as bad!! - Image 3

Had Window World of Rockford out to my home to discuss windows. Told the salesman that I extensively researched and knew exactly what I wanted.

Handed him the piece of paper with the exact windows I wanted for my home. Thought that was what I was getting. Lo and behold the wrong windows were written on the order form and stupid me I didn't catch it. So i have an east west facing house in the midwest with windows that have an SHGC of .21 thus making my home less efficient in the winter.

Here's the other problem...I asked for foam filled and didn't get that either. So my wonderful new windows howl on windy days. The back and side of my house face farm fields. When the wind comes through it hits the back of my house with force.

Hence foam filled sashes and frame. But again it's my fault for taking the salesmans word that what i asked for was ordered. Now for the install. They broke the frames of 5 windows on install and had to replace them.

A lot of the windows the perimeter is overfilled with foam and they are a bear to open. They busted plaster off the walls on the inside of my house. They caused my deck to leak into my house and said it was my deck contractors fault. The deck had been installed for a year with no problems until they removed siding and installed the downstairs windows.

A piece of my siding that had blown off my home was re-affixed with galvanized nails. Just came to find out that the trim around my upstairs windows was left with a huge gap and no caulk and my Tyvek was exposed for the past 3 months since install in May. The siding in between my windows was cut too short and Tyvek was showing. Here's the newest...3 of my windows leaked after a heavy rain.

One leaked so badly it saturated my carpet and leaked into my basement. Their solution was to drill holes in every single frame on both sides of the screen so it will drain faster. Now the full screens I paid for are useless because the bugs just come through the holes.

I have spiders creating homes in every single corner of my windows. Honestly, I wish I had never contacted this company.
